Highlights of Upcoming SID Meeting

Posted on: April 20, 2003

In the end of April 2003 International Investigative Dermatology meeting will take place in Miami Beach, Florida. HairAid.com representative will attend the meeting to learn more about the progress done in the area of hair cloning. Now, we would like to go over some most interesting works that will be presented during this meeting. Today we will review the work by Dr. R. Hoffman from Philipp University, Marburg, Germany.

Researches investigated stem cells of dermal papilla and dermal sheath of hair follicle.

It is well established that dermal papilla cells control development, differentiation and cycling of hair follicles.
Most importantly, dermal papillae cells and dermal sheath cells that are related to dermal papillae cells, can induce new hair follicles. Here, scientist used transplantation techniques to transplant and further track genetically labeled dermal papillae and dermal sheath cells.
They showed, that genetically labeled dermal sheath cells can induce new hair follicle and reform new dermal papillae. This is remarkable property.
Researches think, that "...in principle, it may be possible to utilize cultured hair follicle mesenchyme cells as a treatment for androgenetic alopecia and other forms of hair loss."

In fact, there are already 2 patented techniques, that use Dermal Sheath Cells and Dermal Papillae Cells to induce new hair growth both in animals and in humans.
